Malaysian-born mezzo-soprano Samantha Chong has just won the championship of the 41st National Singing Competition of Malaysia in December 2015. Samantha graduated with the Master of Music Degree at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Her operatic roles include Fox Goldenmane in Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen, Drusilla in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea, and the title role of Rossini’s La Cenerentola. Her collaboration with Opera Hong Kong include the roles of Page in Richard Strauss’s Salome, Dorabella in Mozart’s Così fan tutte. She was the alto soloist of Max Reger Requiem with Hong Kong Bach Choir, premier mezzo-soprano of Legend of Pheonix with Global Symphony Orchestra. Future engagements include Mercedes in Carmen, alto soloist in Charpentier’s Te Deum, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis and Mahler Symphony no. 8.
