
Alex Tam
Graduated from the opera programme of the Royal Academy of Music in London and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Alex Tam is an opera singer, conductor, and composer. He has served as Chorus Director of Opera Hong Kong since 2013. Alex has performed leading roles in stage productions worldwide, including over 30 operatic roles. In 2015, he served as Chorus Master for ODE TO JOY – Concert of Ten Thousand, an event that set a Guinness World Record. He was appointed Artistic Director of the Hong Kong International A Cappella Festival in 2016. Alex is also active in the pop music field, composing and arranging for pop artists, including orchestral arrangements for The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta.
In recognition of his significant contributions to the music profession, Alex received the ARAM award from the Royal Academy of Music in 2017, and the Outstanding Musician Award from the Hong Kong Music and Dance Association in 2018. In 2023, he was appointed Artist in Residence (2023-24) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Alex is currently the Chorus Director of Opera Hong Kong, founder of Aria Academy of Music, and choir conductor at PolyU and HKAPA. He is also a radio presenter on RTHK Radio 4.
As a composer, Alex’s works have been featured in the “Alex Tam Collection” published by CU Chorus, as well as the “Alex Tam Choral Collections for Treble Voices” published by The Hong Kong Children’s Choir. Notable compositions include “Trusting the Rainbow,” “A Stranger,” “Soy Sauce Rice,” and “No Woundless World.” In 2021, the HKCC presented two highly acclaimed concerts titled “HKCC sings Alex Tam,” dedicated entirely to his music. In 2025, he received the CASH Golden Sail Most Performed Work Award (Serious Music) for “Trusting the Rainbow”.
