Margaret Yim, a well-received opera singer and music educator who graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Australia, has performed numerous roles in more than 30 traditional operas as well as the contemporary opera Dreaming Plum Blossoms Away, Night Banquet and The Shopkeeper’s Daughter, The Legend of Zhang Baozai, The Good Person of Szechuan and atmospheric music theatre When Petals Fall in Serenity, Beyond the Senses, Sands and Beyond. She also served as the Assistant Director with renowned Italian Opera Director Maurizio di Mattia in the production of La Boheme and Otello.
Margaret is currently a vocal tutor of the HKAPA, CUHK, HKU as well as the EdUHK. Under her tutelage, singers in her studio garner numerous accolades at local music competitions such as the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival and the Hong Kong Youth Singing Festival. Her students have been accepted at many esteemed overseas institutions as well as local ones. In 2017, she is performing a major role as Fairy in the English version premiere of an Italian Opera Pinocchio and also as main roles in Law Wing-fai’s productions and in addition, Margaret and Maurizio di Mattia, cofounded the ‘2017 Maurizio’s Opera Masterclass’ in Italy with tour performances in various opera houses in Napoli and Atri to nurture young artists around the world.
