Members of Opera Hong Kong Children Chorus have ample opportunities to learn vocal techniques through master classes and perform in different music genres, from opera to musical and choral works, in both solo and ensemble settings.  They also learn to sing in foreign languages including German, Italian and French.  Through these activities, they can discover and develop their musical gift while expanding their intellectual capacity and cultural horizon.

001 Pre-School Music Class

Pre-school children will delve into a world of song, music and instrument playing as we focus on developing their early musical skills, including listening, rhythmic sense and singing through the specially designed and explorative musical activities. Children learn singing games, movement, muscle training and sense of music. They can also have the opportunity to develop cooperative communication skills, memory and language development through song and voice play. This class helps foster young kids’ interest and love in music.

Chorus and Theatre Classes
(Audition is required)
Chorus members have opportunities to learn vocal techniques including skills of ensemble, musical and opera performance. They also have chances to perform in different music genres including grand scale opera productions by Opera Hong Kong. They can also have the opportunities to perform side by side with renowned opera singers on stage.002 Junior Chorus and Theatre Class

Junior members will receive singing training in a pleasant learning atmosphere. The courses include opera and musical training, two-part chorus, music listening, rhythm, tempo, hearing and intonation practice. They will build up inner musicality and sense of rhythm, establish a sound concept of vocalization, and develop the basis of clear articulation, intonation and rhythm. This class arouses member’s interest to learn music.

003 Senior Chorus and Theatre Class

Senior members will receive the bel canto training. The courses include opera and musical training, polyphony ensemble, music appreciation, intonation, basic music theory, rhythm, vocalization, articulation, use of breath, sight singing and aural skill. This class provides members with comprehensive music training, laying the foundation for ensemble, musical and opera so that they can learn about group cooperation and enrich performance experience.

004 Youth Art Lyrique

This ‘music-theatre class’ provides comprehensive performing opportunities for members to develop their discipline, attitude and ethics required by professional performance. Also, it encourages interaction between members. Members will develop “staging”, artistic and creative skills through this platform.Members will learn sophisticated repertoire in various European languages and musical styles. They will have more chances for cooperative musical works, for example, duets, trio or madrigal, A Cappella, musical and opera etc. The courses include training in phonetic, theatre, vocal, aural skills, sight-singing, music appreciation and chorus training.They would have chances to perform in different music genres including grand scale opera productions by Opera Hong Kong. They can also have the opportunities to perform side by side with renowned opera singers on stage.

Audition Procedure:
All applicants are required to sing a short excerpt under 2 mins from a song/aria in classical style. Please bring 2 copies of the music scores and an accompanist will be provided.

Teaching Medium: Classes will be conducted in English, supplemented with Cantonese. Students will learn different European languages of original lyrics.
